Play one note at a time. The site works out what you
played by measuring the pitch of the signal, and that only works for a
single note. For chords, arpeggiate the shape — pick each
string separately so you can hear and check every note.
Games
The rest of this page teaches you what the notes are. These seven drill
the other half — getting the fretting hand to land in the right place
without you having to look for it. Every one is scored and keeps a best.
One note at a time. The site measures pitch, so it
hears notes rather than positions — a target on the G string at fret 2 is
also satisfied by the D string at fret 7, because they are the same note.
Chord Changes works around this by having you arpeggiate the shape, which
is how you should be checking a chord anyway.
Find the note
Knowing where any note lives is what frees you from shapes. Every dot on
the neck below is somewhere you could play the answer — any of them
counts.

Intervals
On a guitar an interval is a shape, not a number of frets — the same
shape works anywhere on the neck. Learn a handful and you can build any
scale or chord from memory.

Chords
Open shapes where they exist, movable barre shapes everywhere else.
Browse to learn the grip, then arpeggiate it — one string at a time,
lowest to highest — so the site can hear whether you got it.

Scales
A scale on a guitar only means something once you pick a position — a
four-or-five fret window your hand can sit in. Pick a key and a shape,
and the box is worked out with one finger per fret.

Song scales
The scale behind a song you already know is the fastest way in — you can
hear whether a note is right before you can work out why. Keys taken from
published harmonic analyses of each track.
Progressions
Chords in sequence. Pitch detection hears one note at a time, so a strum
cannot be judged — each chord is arpeggiated instead,
one string at a time from the lowest. Learning them that way is better
practice anyway: you find out which string you are actually muting.
